Economic Development

THREE  PROJECTS:

  1. Modernize Sportsplex
  2. New Construction to include Commercial and Residential Development.
  3. Business Incubator to support local businessesFIRST STEP IS TAKING STOCK OF WHAT IS HERE!A City with a 454 acre lake within City Limits, and the Chickasawhay River along its border.
    1A City with its downtown vibrant with new stores opening every year.A City featuring 1G Fiber everywhere.

    A City designated as a Health Care Zone with its H. C. Watkins Hospital and Clinic. Land available for new health care investment.

    Current Sportsplex was built in early 1970’s and facilities are very much outdated.

    Quality of Life for our kids and Tourism Dollars come into play with

    15 Acres of Bazor Lumber Yard will be purchased to increase the size of the park.

    On the other side of N. Jackson a Developer has expressed interest in a  Planned Unit Development (P.U.D.). This will be commercial & residential tying several neighborhoods together.

    A P. U. D. allows commercial development on the front bordering N. Jackson and residential behind City Hall, Quitman, MS. (building next to City Hall has been gutted due to environmental concerns)

    BUSINESS INCUBATORS ARE DESIGNED TO TRAIN BUSINESS OWNERS ON SOCIAL MEDIA, WEB SITE DEVELOPMENT, AND FINANCIAL UNDERSTANDING.

    OFFICE SPACE IN FRONT OF BUILDING WILL BE TO RENT TO PROSPECTIVE BUSINESSES TO GET STARTED. CONFERENCE ROOM WILL ALSO BECOME CITY’S MEETING ROOM. FINANCING WILL COME FROM a SMALL & LIMITED POPULATION GRANT.
